NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Canada issuing a travel advisory to its citizens calling on them to exercise a high degree of caution when traveling to The Bahamas.

They’re now joining the United States which warned its citizens about crime last week.

Canada’s advisory tells citizens to risk level is due to high rates of crime, especially in Freeport and Nassau.

Despite the advisories, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism Chester Cooper had this to say to Parliamentarians.

The January 29th advisory says armed robberies, burglaries, purse snatching, theft, fraud and sexual assaults are the most common committed against travelers.

The Canadian government is cautioning its residents to avoid Over-The-Hill south of Shirley Street and fish fry areas.

It also advises them to among other things, stay alert and not to walk alone, particularly after dark.

Despite the uproar, Cooper says forward bookings remain robust.
