HAITI – U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Haiti on Thursday for talks with Prime Minister Garry Conille, as the country expanded its state of emergency to cover its entire territory.

Haiti has been grappling with violent gangs that control much of the capital, Port-Au-Prince, and are spreading into nearby regions.

The U.S. is the largest contributor to a U.N.-backed security mission requested by Haiti to combat the gangs.

The conflict has displaced nearly 580,000 people, with millions facing severe hunger and many deported back to Haiti.
