Acting Prime Minister: We Don’t Expect A Fallout

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Acting Prime Minister Chester Cooper addressed concerns about the potential impact the Baha Mar court case could have on foreign investment describing it as a “sideshow.”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – “I think this is a a sideshow between two private parties that will run its course in the courts,” according to Acting Prime Minister Chester Cooper.

He was addressing concerns about the potential impact the Baha Mar court case could have on foreign investment.

His comments come after a New York judge awared Sarkis Izmirilian $1.6 billion.

Justice Andre Borok ruled that China Construction America engaged in what he described as a “sham and shakedown,” leaving the Izmirlian family $845 million in the red.

Without commenting on the details of the ruling, Cooper stressed the government’s dedication to creating an investor-friendly environment.

He also added that he doesn’t see the fallout Having any impact on the mega resort.

Now the ruling also getting backlash from the opposition.

Former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis suggested the need for a Commission of Inquiry to look into the matter.

In a separate statement, Opposition Leader Michael Pintard called for an independent investigation, stating that the opposition does not trust the current admInistration to carry out a fair and impartial probe.

PLP Chairman Fred Mitchell fired back, accusing Pintard of turning against his own.

“He went leaping to the defense of the Grand Bahama Port Authority and had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the table by Kwesi Thompson and Iram Lewis, his fellow MPs,” Mitchell said.

“What a shame.”
