NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Major family is breathing a sigh of relief at least for now.

It comes hours after three police officers have been committed to stand trial for manslaughter in the 2021 shooting death of their loved one, Azario Major.

His sister Fredia ‘it’s Dia’ Major has been vocal on the issue never shying away from calls for justice when it comes to her brother’s death.

Even taking the issue international, speaking about it publicly on American reality TV show – Baddies Caribbean earlier this year.

Now back at home she says Friday’s court proceedings were long overdue.

Major was shot to death by police on December 26th, 2021 outside of Woody’s Bar on Firetrail Road.

Those officers will be arraigned in the Supreme Court next month.

His sister feels the government can do more to ease the hurt of families left to mourn under these circumstances.

“The important question is, why isn’t the government doing anything about the high level of deception and lies that prolonged police-involved criminal activities from being brought before the courts,” she asked.

While Azario’s family is celebrating, Major says the day was a bittersweet one.

Moving forward, the family wants Azario’s name to be a beacon for other families to get justice like they did.

As for what’s next for them, Major says the plan is to work with other families in similar situations to get justice for their loved ones.
