U.S.A. – The Bahamas’ Senior Men’s National team went winless in window two of FIBA Americup 2025 qualifiers.
Team Bahamas concluded the brief road trip with a 97 – 74 loss to the United States Monday night in Washington, DC.
Tavario Miller was The Bahamas’ leading scorer for the second consecutive game and finished with a double double – 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Sammy Hunter had 14 points, Eron Gordon scored 12, and Godfrey Rolle III scored 10.
Kentwan Smith made three pointers and finished with nine points, while Rashad Davis also scored nine.
Early in the third quarter, Team Bahamas trimmed the deficit to seven on a Rolle three pointer, but the USA responded with a 25-4 run to put the game away for good.
With the win, the USA leads group d at 3-1, one win away from securing their place in the 2025 FIBA Americup.
The Bahamas is now 1-3 and face Cuba and the USA again in window three in February.
NCAA Women’s Basketball
Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin, Rhema Collins and Ole Miss advanced to the title game of the Continental Tire Baha Mar Hoops Women’s Championship.
Ole Miss led nearly wire to wire in a 92-55 route of Boston College Monday at the Baha Mar’s Convention Center.
Collins, the sophomore forward played her most minutes of the season and took advantage of it.
She did a bit of everything on the stat sheet and finished with five points, five rebounds, two assists, a steal and a blocked shot.
The Ole Miss defense held Boston College to its fewest point total this season and their worst shooting night at 37 percent.
Opposite to Boston College, Ole Miss had its best shooting night of the year at 51 percent.
Ole Miss improved to 4-1 and up next, they face the no. 2 team in the country in the title game – the Uconn Huskies.
Tipoff is set for Wednesday night at 7:30 pm.
Meanwhile, over at the Battle 4 Alantis – the North Carolina Tar Heels won the women’s championship in one of the most lopsided title games in tournament history.
The no.16 Tar Heels earned the traditional Junkanoo celebration and championship trophy with a 69-39 win over the Indiana Hoosiers Monday at the Imperial Arena.
Attention now shifts to the men’s tournament which begins at noon Wednesday.
This year’s men’s field features three top-25 teams: no. 3 Gonzaga, no. 14 Indiana and no. 24 Arizona.
Other teams include Louisville, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Providence, and Davidson.
NCAA Football
A pair of teams that have yet to play in the Bahamas Bowl earned the game’s team of the week honors in our week 14 update.
In Conference USA – Jacksonville State clinched home field in the conference title game with a 21-11 win over Sam Houston State.
In the player spotlight, Liberty running back Quinton Cooley had 26 carries for 166 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-21 win over Western Kentucky.
In the MAC, Bowling Green stayed in a three-way tie atop the conference standings with a 38-13 win over Ball State.
Miami of Ohio defensive back Eli Blakey had 10 solo tackles and an interception as the Redhawks defeated Northern Illinois, 20-9.
