DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – The Bahamas Olympic Committee has officially announced the team that will represent the country at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, set for July 24 – August 8 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Team Bahamas will compete across 10 sports, led by a 14-member track and field squad, while also fielding athletes in archery, boxing, equestrian, esports, golf, judo, sailing, swimming and wrestling.

The athletics team includes:

Anthonique Strachan, Wendell Miller, Denisha Cartwright, Serena Brown, Samalee Farrington, Ian Kerr, Adam Musgrove, Camille Rutherford, Printasia Johnson, Shaun Miller Jr., Tarajh Hudson, Brenden Vanderpool, Tyler Cash and Zion Campbell.

The other sports will feature Leron Rolle in archery, Anai Powell and Keanu Greene in boxing, then Karra Hanna and Xavion Johnson in Judo.

Then its Madison Carroll-Carlos in golf, Derek Wong Jr. in esports, and a sailing team of Joshua Higgins, Eliza Denning, Mary Nash, Elianne Higgs, Patrick Ryan Tomlinson, Joss Knowles, Nash Cartwright and Lori Lowe.

The 10-member swimming team features Tristen Hepburn, Jack Barr, Rhanishka Gibbs, Lelah Emma Lewis, Victoria Russell, Caden Wells, Zoe Zngel, Andrea Williamson, Ayrton Moncur, Tristen Ferguson and Courtney Leslie-Jones Barr,

Meanwhile Shannon Geran Hanna II will represent The Bahamas in wrestling.

Higgs, Nesbitt Power Bahamas to Win

Team Bahamas got back in the win column at the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2027 Centrobasket Qualifiers, holding off host nation Nicaragua 73-67 Tuesday night at the Polideportivo Alexis Argüello in Managua.

The Bahamas overcame a late charge from the hosts in a game that featured 12 lead changes, with Lashann Higgs delivering when it mattered most.

After Nicaragua tied the game at 67-67 with less than two minutes to play, Lashann Higgs answered just 13 seconds later with the go-ahead basket to put The Bahamas back in front for good.

The Bahamian defense then took over, holding Nicaragua to just one field goal over the final three minutes to seal the victory.

Higgs finished with a game-high 25 points, along with three assists, four steals and two rebounds.

Valerie Nesbitt added 21 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals, while Rhema Collins recorded a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Antonicia Moultrie controlled the paint with 10 rebounds and four blocks.

The win gives The Bahamas a crucial boost as the team continues its quest to qualify for the 2027 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup.

The Bahamas faces Mexico on Wednesday at 2 PM.

Joseph’s Five Medals Leads Team Bahamas

Team Bahamas returned home with five medals from the PanAm Aquatics Swimming Championships in Ibagué, Colombia, and every one of them belonged to Christon Joseph.

Competing as part of a three-member Bahamian team alongside Nai’a Belton and Isaac Wright, Joseph produced one of the standout performances of the championships.

He captured two gold medals, winning the 50-meter butterfly in 26.05 seconds and the 100-meter butterfly in 57.72 seconds.

He also claimed two silver medals, finishing second in the 50-meter freestyle in 24.14 seconds, and the 50-meter breaststroke in 30.96 seconds, before adding a bronze medal in the 100-meter freestyle in 53.32 seconds.

Meanwhile, Isaac Wright competed in the 100 and 200-meter butterfly, as well as the 200 and 400-meter freestyle, posting his best finish of 32nd in the 400-meter freestyle in four minutes, 31.86 seconds.

Nai’a Belton also turned in a solid performance, finishing 16th in the 1,500-meter freestyle in 20:08.86, 17th in the 800-meter freestyle in 10:22.34, and 21st in the 400-meter freestyle in 4:55.05.
