NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Excitement is building as we count down to the Boxing Day Junkanoo parade.

Despite not making it to bay for the last two years, the Prodigal Sons Junkanoo group is determined to make a powerful statement this year.

“O ur theme this year is, uh, 50 years of greatness,” leader Eric Knowles said.

“Going back to the Golden Jubilee celebration. You know, in this presentation, you will see basically a whole lot of people who contributed over the years to the 50, 50 years of development.”

The group’s costumes depict scenes ranging from tourism and spirituality to music and industry.

Each tells a story, including tributes to legends like Sir Sidney Poitier along with other Bahamian greats. But bringing these visions to life hasn’t been easy.

This is the group’s first appearance, in years after their shack went up in flames in November 2022.

Knowles explains how they rebuilt with limited resources and no major sponsorship.

Despite these obstacles, they remain optimistic about their performance.
