NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Future lockdowns may not be totally out of the question, according to Ministry of Health officials in the wake of a rise in COVID-19 cases.

This as the country this week marked the grim milestone of 800 deaths since the start of the pandemic, and a move away from the reactionary phase of the pandemic.

Jasmin Brown reports.

How possible is another lockdown? Ministry of Health Registrar Dr Phillip Swann says while it is unlikely, another lockdown is not impossible.

After more than a year of tight measures to curb the spread of COVID-19, the Davis administration has removed many restrictions and emphasized the importance of personal responsibility.

Dr Swann insists it’s key in the fight against COVID.

He adds, health officials are keeping a close eye on a new variant spreading rapidly across the globe.
There were 340 active COVID cases in The Bahamas as of May 10.th

Less than a dozen people are hospitalized with COVID-19.

Dr Swann says most individuals hospitalized with COVID were in the hospital because of other issues.
