UNITED STATES – BJ Murray, the Bahamian infielder continued his outstanding season Wednesday night, belting his 10th home run of the year for the Iowa Cubs against Toledo.

It was his second home run in his last three games and another reminder that he’s been one of the most productive hitters in the International League.

Murray is batting .325 with 10 home runs, 47 runs batted in, a .413 on-base percentage, and a .921 OPS. He ranks among the league leaders in batting average, on-base percentage, OPS, and hits, strengthening his case for his first Major League call-up.

Meanwhile, fellow Bahamian Kristian Robinson also continued his strong campaign in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.

Robinson hit his seventh home run of the season for the Reno Aces, a tie-breaking shot to right field that gave his club the lead against Sacramento.

The home run continues what has been one of the most complete seasons of Robinson’s professional career. The former top prospect is hitting .270 with seven home runs, 35 runs batted in, 13 stolen bases, and an .813 OPS as he continues his push toward a Major League opportunity.

Cricket

The Bahamas’ quest to reach the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup remains alive.

The senior men’s national team finished second at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Sub-Regional Qualifier A in Bermuda, posting a two-win, one-loss record while advancing to the next stage of qualifying, which will take place next year.

The tournament opened in unusual fashion as The Bahamas’ match against host nation Bermuda was abandoned due to rain, leaving both teams with a point.

The Bahamians then suffered their only defeat of the tournament, falling to Panama by four wickets after posting 114 for five in their 20 overs.

But with their World Cup hopes on the line, the team responded.

The Bahamas defeated Brazil by six wickets, with Festus Benn earning Player of the Match honors after claiming three wickets for just 22 runs. Renford Davson led the batting attack with 26 runs.

The tournament came down to a must-win match against Belize.

Marc Taylor delivered when it mattered most, scoring 51 runs off 52 balls to earn Player of the Match honors as The Bahamas claimed a 22-run victory to secure second place and advance.

Bahamas Cricket Association President Greg Taylor praised the team’s preparation and discipline, saying the players showed growth, remained committed throughout the tournament, and executed when their season was on the line.

While Bermuda claimed the tournament title with a perfect 3-0 record, The Bahamas leaves Bermuda having accomplished its primary objective of keeping its T20 World Cup dream alive.

Mingoes Golf

The University of The Bahamas golf program continues to gain momentum thanks to strong corporate support.

Fidelity Bank (Bahamas) Limited has returned as the title sponsor of the second annual University of The Bahamas Mingoes Golf Invitational, while Dunkin’ Bahamas will serve as the event’s gold sponsor.

The invitational serves as a fundraiser for the university’s golf program, helping to support its continued growth while also raising the profile of the sport among student-athletes.

Lightbourne Trading and J.S. Johnson have also returned as silver sponsors, continuing their commitment to collegiate athletics.

The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, July 5, at the Royal Blue Golf Course at Baha Mar, with a 2 p.m. shotgun start.

As the program continues to grow, the university is hoping the annual invitational will become a signature event that helps provide student-athletes with even more opportunities to compete and succeed.
