NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As the B.A.I.S.S. Track and Field Meet continued, some of the top athletes in the country gave us an early look at the performances we can expect next month when they take on the region at the CARIFTA Games.
S.A.C.’s Jahcario Wilson already a CARIFTA qualifier in the under-17 boys 100m hurdles also added the 100m title, in 10.97 secs.
Jazae Johnson of St. John’s College has now reached the CARIFTA standard in four events.
Johnson won the u-15 girls 100m in 12.40 seconds and in the field, she cleared 1.63m to match the CARIFTA standard in the high jump.
Nijae McBride, of SAC, won the much anticipated u20-men’s 100m in 10.94 secs while his teammate Kylee Wallace Won the u20-women’s race in 12.21 secs.
S.A.C.’s Bayli Major also reached the CARIFTA standard in multiple events, most recently in the u20 women’s long Jump at 5.65m.
QC’s Annae Mackey reached the CARIFTA standard and and set a new B.A.I.S.S. record in the u-20 women’s shot put with a throw of 14.27m to break the previous record of 13.52m set by Serena Brown in 2016.
In the u-17 boy’s triple jump, the Comets’ Nathan Walker was another CARIFTA qualifier at 12.92m
NCAA Women’s Basketball
Coach Yo, Rhema Collins and Ole Miss opened the SEC Tournament with a win – their reward? Facing the number one team in the nation.
Ole miss defeated Mississippi State 85-73 in Thursday’s second round and will face the top ranked Texas Longhorns tonight in the quarterfinals in Greenville, South Carolina.
Coach Yo has led ole miss to at least 20 wins for four consecutive seasons.
Soccer
The University of The Bahamas men’s soccer side opened the Bahamas Football Association’s knockout cup with a win.
In his first start at forward – Sidney Decius scored two goals to lead the Mingoes to a 3-1 victory over Cavalier FC Sunday at the Roscow Davies Soccer Field.
Decius scored his first goal in the fifth minute of the game on a corner kick.
At the 15th minute, Ronoldo Green put away a penalty-kick to put ub up 2-0.
Decius scored his second goal of the game just three minutes later to give UB led 3-0.
The second leg of the knockout cup is set for Sunday, March 23.
