CHINA – China is conducting live-fire drills off the coast of Fujian Province, near Taiwan, following recent large-scale military exercises aimed at the island.

The Maritime Safety Administration issued a notice warning ships to avoid the area near the Pingtan islands but provided few details.

Taiwan’s Defense Ministry stated it was monitoring the drills, which are part of China’s annual exercises, and suggested they may be intended to increase deterrence in the Taiwan strait.

Tensions between China and Taiwan have escalated, with Beijing claiming sovereignty over the self-ruled island. In response, the U.S. and its allies, including Canada and Germany, have conducted “Freedom of Navigation” transits through the Taiwan Strait, maintaining a presence in the region amid growing Chinese Military activity.
