NASSAU, BAHAMAS – More than 200 high-powered weapons have been seized in the country so far this year. It’s progress, according to the police commissioner, who reveals what police are doing to crack down on crime.

Criminals are becoming craftier than ever, according to Commissioner of Police Clayton Fernander, who says they are noticing a growing trend of high-powered weapons are being smuggled into the country, sometimes through couriers in snack and cereal boxes.

Firearms are still the weapon of choice for most criminals – used in the majority of murders and armed robberies in the country.

As for the vehicles that are being used, the C.O.P. says suspects are using their artistic skills to disguise vehicles.

Gang violence continues to be a concern for police, as Fernander explains officers are focused on disrupting gang activity.

More than one year after six men were shot and killed in a mass shooting at Jerome Avenue, Commissioner Fernander giving this update on the investigation.
