NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Court of Appeal has issued a stay on the corruption trial of embattled FNM MP Adrian Gibson.

The stay will prevent the trial from beginning before Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson on tomorrow, as scheduled.

Justice Grant-Thompson had previously refused to stay the case pending an appeal against her decision that Gibson and his co-accused could have a fair trial.

As a result, Grant-Thompson proceeded to impanel a jury of four women and five men to hear the case last Thursday.

She adjourned the matter to May 23.

However, the trial won’t begin until the superior court decides on the appeal, which is expected to be heard on June 13.

Gibson is accused of getting $1.1 million in kickbacks from contracts awarded by the Water and Sewerage Corporation while he served as its executive chairman from 2018 through 2021.

Gibson is charged along with his campaign general, Joan Knowles,  Elwood Donaldson, the corporation’s former General manager, Jerome Missick, Peaches Farquharson and his cousin, Rashae Gibson.
