CUBA – Cuba is facing major blackouts after a key power plant failure, with only 6 out of 15 oil-fired plants operating.

Authorities say because of a severe fuel shortage, even backup generators aren’t keeping up.

The crisis led government to close schools and order non-essential workers to stay home for two days.

In Havana, residents are seeing outages of 6–10 hours, while smaller towns report up to 20-hour outages.

This power crisis, the worst since last year’s grid collapses, has added to the stress of food, fuel, and medicine shortages that have pushed over a million Cubans to leave the island.

The government blames U.S. sanctions for the ongoing difficulties in maintaining the electrical grid.
