Dept. of Inland Revenue: We Are In Collections Mode

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Department Of Inland Revenue is clamping down on people who owe Real Property Taxes. Acting Director of Inland Revenue, Shunda Strachan, says there is no more time for extended payment plans and the department is in full collections mode.

 



Acting Director of Inland Revenue, Shunda Strachan, says they are all about compliance and collecting funds owed to the government, amounting to 700-million-dollars in real property taxes and more than 200-million in Value Added Tax and Business License fees.

She explains there are several categories of property owners.

The 2022/ 2023 budget debate is expected to include potential changes in section 25 of the Real Property Tax Act which speaks to the power of sale. So if you own property, listen up.

There are steps that the department can take before invoking the power of sale, depending on the type of property.
