NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Free National Movement is standing behind those who are a part of an ongoing probe into the Bahamas Beaches and Parks Authority.

FNM Chairman Dr. Duane Sands telling Our News he believes the investigation is political adding it seems government is trying to distract from high power bills, fuel prices and cost of groceries

The FNM coming to the defense of the party’s Deputy Leader Shanendon Cartwright amid an ongoing investigation into the Public Parks and Beaches Authority.

Cartwright served as executive chairman under the Minnis administration.

Last week it was revealed that Cartwright was brought in for questioning.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Leamond Deleveaux recently told the Nassau Guardian the investigation should be complete in a few weeks, adding they’re not looking into a certain person.

Sands seems to think the investigation is just a distraction.

According to Deleveaux, police are investigating alleged irregularities at the authority.

Since taking office, the Davis administration raised concerns about the issuance of contracts at the authority under the former Minnis administration.

Back in 2021, then Works Minister Alfred Sears said a rash of contracts were issued just before the election without board approval.

Four months after taking office, the government canceled all contracts at the authority, claiming external investigators found numerous lapses in internal controls.

The FNM chairman added the government should put their eye on another government authority instead of scrutinizing the FNM’s tenure in office.
