NASSAU , BAHAMAS – FOCOL Holdings Limited signed a Half-Billion-Dollar Agreement with Turner Industries for the construction of the New Providence LNG Gas Terminal.
This is a major energy project, that officials said will expand the country’s energy capacity.
Dexter Adderley – President and CEO, Focol Holdings Ltd.
“This project reflects a broader commitment to strengthening the energy infrastructure in ways that improve reliability, support economic activity, expand energy capacity, and position The Bahamas more competitively in a rapidly evolving global environment. While projects like this are often measured by investment value, equipment, and construction timelines, their true impact is measured by what they make possible.”
FOCOL President and CEO Dexter Adderley said the LNG terminal represents a major step toward modernizing the country’s energy sector while positioning The Bahamas to better compete in a changing global market.
The project builds on plans first announced by Attorney General Ryan Pinder back in March 2025, when he revealed the LNG terminal would be a joint venture between Focol and Shell.
The terminal would supply natural gas to both Bahamas Power and Light and Focol’s generation facilities at Clifton Pier, with the long-term goal of covering BPL’s entire base load.
As for what the scope of work will look like:
Dexter Adderley – President and CEO, Focol Holdings Ltd.
“The terminal is going to be a combination of marine assets and shoreside assets. On the marine side, we’re going to have a floating platform that connects to the shore to transfer the LNG from the Shell tankers to shore. Onshore, it’s going to be a combination of bulk storage tanks, regasification equipment, pumps, compressors, et cetera, to convert the liquid LNG into natural gas so that it can be sent out to the gas turbines to generate electricity.”
The contract for the terminal’s construction was signed with Turner Industries, a U.S.-based engineering company with experience building LNG facilities.
The company’s CEO, Stephen Toups, said that the project will introduce large-scale energy infrastructure never before seen in The Bahamas.
Stephen Toups – CEO, Turner’s Industries
“It will be new, and it will be very exciting to watch because this thing is going to rise up out of the ground. It will be exciting to watch this technology be installed. This is new stuff. Like Dexter said, this is coming from all over the place to build a best-in-class facility. This is not new to this hemisphere, but it’s certainly new for The Bahamas. It’s not new to us to install it, but we’re really excited to get on it and start it.”
Toups added that Turner Industries also plans to train Bahamians throughout the project, helping to develop a local workforce capable of maintaining the facility in the future.
