GRAND BAHAMA , BAHAMAS – Five polling stations were open on Thursday in Grand Bahama, giving residents in the nation’s second city their opportunity to cast their votes ahead of the general election.

The Eric L. Sam Centre was the advanced polling station for East Grand Bahama.

Outside, residents formed three lines, two in alphabetical order and one to accommodate seniors.

What started out as an orderly process eventually grew intense, leaving one clergyman to offer up a prayer.

For some voters, the process was seamless, while others baked in the sun awaiting their turn to vote.

Member of Parliament for East Grand Bahama, Kwasi Thompson, said his attempts to make the day more comfortable for voters were met with resistance.

Now over at the Central Grand Bahama polling station, the long lines continued.

Progressive Liberal Party candidate for Central Grand Bahama, Parkco Deal, gave his account.

As for Coalition of Independents candidate for Central Grand Bahama, Iram Lewis, the scene was cordial.

Over in Marco City, Member of Parliament and Opposition Leader Michael Pintard shared that while he did not register for the advanced polls, he was surprised to find his name on the list.

Some 5,003 persons were registered to participate in the advanced polls in Grand Bahama, and officials are expecting an even greater turnout on May 12.
