NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Livable wage may be on the way soon as officials in the labour ministry are said to be wrapping up a report to put before Cabinet.

The news on the campaign promise comes less than eight months into the Davis administration’s term.

Minister of Labour Keith Bell tells reporters that the new livable wage for workers in the country is coming soon.

He says the goal is to eliminate minimum wage and introduce a livable wage in line with international standards.

The minister shared that he anticipates that the livable wage will be introduced before the end of the year.

Also, Bell says ahead of the weekly cabinet meeting, that once the report is before Cabinet, the wage will also factor in inflation.

The labour minister notes that the livable wage would be applicable to the private sector as well.
