Let The Olympic Games Begin!

PARIS, FRANCE – The moment the sports world has been waiting for is finally here – the Games of the 33rd Olympiad – Paris 2024.

Opening ceremonies took place earlier Friday afternoon and the Parisians had a unique twist on the event.

For the first time in Olympic history, the opening didn’t take place in a stadium, but rather, athletes and the delegations cruised down the Seine River in the heart of Paris.

The route took them past historic landmarks, including the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Louvre.

Reigning olympic 400m Champion Steven Gardiner and 60m hurdles world record holder Devynne Charlton were the flag bearers for Team Bahamas.

The 20 member team will compete in two disciplines in paris – athletics and swimming.

The swimmers will be in action first for team bahamas. 

On July 30th Lamar Taylor will swim in heat five of the 100m free and on August 3rd Rhanishka Gibbs will swim in heat seven of the 50m free.

Athletics competition begins for us on August 2 with Ken Mullings in the decathlon, Charisma Taylor in the triple jump qualification and round one of the mixed 4x400m relay.

Basketball

The struggles continue for Team Bahamas at the u-15 Centrobasket championships for women.

In game two, The Bahamas lost 69 – 37 to El Salvador at the event in David, Panama.

Tahjanique Morley scored a team high 11 points, and Ricarra Beadle scored 10. Shanai Nixon and Andica Curtis each scored six points.

Curtis went down early with an ankle injury just under  seven minutes into the first quarter and The Bahamas fell behind early, 23-10.

The Bahamas played their final game of the group stage Friday afternoon against Puerto Rico.

Baseball

Bahamian prospects continue to get it done for the Boston Red Sox organization in the Dominican Summer League.

Trent Wilson pitched four innings and had three strikeouts for the DSL Red Sox-Blue in their 4-2 win over the DSL Mariners.

Chad Delancey went 2-4 with 2 rbi for the DSL Red Sox-Red in their 7-3 loss to the DSL Rays on Wednesday. Delancey is hitting .333 with 7 rbi on the season.

EJ Darville finished 1-3 in the dsl red sox blue’s 9-3 loss to the DSL Rays on Thursday.

Also for the DSL Red Sox – Red Tavano Baker is hitting .238 with 15 rbi, three stolen bases and one home run.
