NASSAU, BAHAMAS – An employee of the Parliamentary Registration Department is facing charges after prosecutors say he was found in possession of multiple voter’s cards.

Authorities arrested Randy Powell Jr, 31, and Tashania Valsaint, 33, on April 9 as part of an investigation to determine where she got a fake Bahamian voter’s card.

An official at the National Insurance Board called in police after Valsaint allegedly presented the voter’s card to get an NIB smart card.

During the investigation into the origin of the card, police officers allegedly found Powell with five, blank forged voter’s cards, four voter’s cards, and three voter transfer forms.

Powell faced charges of unlawful possession, possession of forged documents, and abetmemt to commit fraud by false pretenses at his arraignment.

Valsaint is accused of possession of a forged document, uttering a forged document and attempted fraud by false pretenses.

They’re both accused of conspiracy to commit fraud by false pretenses.

The accused denied the allegations when they appeared before Senior Magistrate Kendra Kelly-Burrows.

Bail was set at $8,000 with one or two sureties for Powell and $9,000 cash for Powell.

Their trial is scheduled for August 14.
