NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Minister responsible for Social Services Obie Wilchcombe addressing the grievances of social services workers which led to two days of protests.

Wilchcombe agreeing with members of the Bahamas Public Service Union, admitting that some of the concerns expressed by the union must be resolved.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s parliamentary session, Wilchcombe said social services employees can expect a meeting in a matter of days with solutions to the vexing issues.

At the time Wilchcombe said staffers were all aware of the meeting.

On Wednesday, the BPSU explained its members have long been plagued with issues like the absence of promotions and many more in need to be regularized.

On Thursday, those members took their concerns to the office of the prime minister.

As for talks with the bargaining agent, Wilchcombe says he spoke with the union as recently as last week.

However, Wilchombe says a tremendous amount of progress has been made to address the concerns.
