CANADA – Fierce waves lashed Canada’s Nova Scotia province as the Lee storm system churned, packing hurricane-force winds that knocked out power lines and downed trees.

Lee made landfall on Long Island, a small island southwest of Halifax, with estimated maximum sustained winds of 70 mph over the weekend.

At least one storm-related fatality was recorded on Saturday. A motorist in the U.S. state of Maine died after a tree fell on his vehicle.

In the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, around 120,000 people were without power on Saturday.
