NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Another three murders were recorded in the capital, Monday, over a span of less than 12 hours. This comes after a fairly quiet weekend, bringing the murder count to a whopping 13, nearing March’s 22 killings.

While officials call for residents to speak out, many will not, fearful for their safety.

Police Superintendent Audley Peters pleads to members of the public as investigators are probing the murders of three men, while three more clinging to life.

Police are investigating a stabbing at a Carmichael Road business establishment sometime after 2pm Monday. Investigators say the incident was the result of a fight between two men, one who later died at the hospital, the other now in custody.

Police are also investigating a shooting on Dean Street, sometime after 10pm. That incident left one man dead and three more in critical condition in a drive-by shooting near a Nassau Street business.

Initial investigations into the last murder of the night reveal a fight between three men turned deadly at the intersection of Beatrice Avenue and Charles W. Saunders Highway, leaving one man laying dead in the street and one other person unaccounted for.

Police say the shooter sent a hail of bullets in their direction before fleeing the scene alone in his vehicle.

With the murder rate climbing, residents remain fearful, often declining to give even the slightest details to authorities or the media.

Minister of National Security Wayne Munroe says while the crimes are worrisome, members of the public must take a more active role.

As the murder count climbs, authorities continue to seek your assistance in solving these crimes.
