UNITED STATES – A new report from the UNICEF says almost all of the world’s children are exposed to at least one climate hazard, with as many as 1.8 billion at risk from droughts and 1.2 billion threatened by extreme heat.

UNICEF said children are disproportionately affected by a range of intensifying climate-related risks.

The agency is urging governments to invest in infrastructure and disaster management capabilities to reduce children’s exposure to these dangers.

The report also found that as many as 662 million children are at risk from tropical storms, while more than 240 million children in 85 countries experienced disruptions to their schooling due to climate hazards in 2024.
