NASSAU , BAHAMAS – Residents voiced growing concerns about the integrity of the upcoming general election, with some even calling for it to be put on pause.

The outcry comes after weeks of controversy surrounding fraudulent passports and the arrest of a Parliamentary Registration Department worker who was allegedly caught with false voters’ cards.

Now, some residents are calling for the process to be halted altogether, arguing that the system is compromised.

Resident

“I think the election should be paused. Let’s get to the bottom of all these fraudulent documents floating around. It’s ridiculous.”

Resident

“It’s too much stuff going on. Every day it’s new cases. The integrity, to me, is flawed, it’s weak, and needs to be dealt with.”

Long-time voters said they have never seen this level of uncertainty, warning that their confidence in the electoral process is beginning to erode.

Resident

“I think we need to look further into it because it’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous. We don’t know who has the real thing now.”

Resident

“We are all concerned about that. Everyone is concerned about that. We never had it this bad.”

Meanwhile, one resident raised concerns about the potential impact of fraudulent documents on the entire process, questioning how authorities will verify identities on election day.

Resident

“If you have fraudulent passports being given out to immigrants, how, when it’s time to go on the election line, will they know? If these are fraudulent passports, the only way you’re going to know, like Lincoln says, is to speak to the person in front of you. If they can’t speak the Queen’s English, then they shouldn’t have a passport.”
