Police Reservist Gunned Down in Armed Robbery at Palmdale Plaza

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon when a police reserve inspector and another victim lost their lives in a double shooting at the Palmdale Shopping Center.

According to police, the shooting occurred just before noon as Police Reservist Lernex Williams was believed to be making a deposit at a drop box.

Chief Superintendent Shanta Knowles provided this account to the media:
“Our brief investigation so far tells us that a man we now identify as a police reserve inspector was at the deposit drop box making a deposit when he was accosted by a group of men. There was an exchange of gunfire, resulting in two of them, the police inspector and another man, being shot. They were later confirmed deceased here on the scene. We have no further information at this time, but we are appealing to the public. We know that the other men who accompanied the man who had been shot got into a small white vehicle and left this area.”

Police believe four men fled the scene in what is suspected to be a Japanese-model vehicle. The commissioner also appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects:
“Again, I am appealing to those who were involved in this incident, please turn yourselves in.”

The second victim was not officially identified at the scene, but news of the double shooting and the identity of the police reservist spread quickly. The reservist, a senior transport officer, was attached to the Cabinet Office and an active member of St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church.

Leshard Stovel, the nephew of the second victim, expressed his grief and noted that although one suspect lay dead, he did not see it as swift justice:
“I wish it never happened. I wish everyone was still living and living their life. I don’t wish death on nobody, and you know you’re not supposed to do ‘eye for an eye,’ but no, there’s no justice in that.”
