National Trade Policy Now Available

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Ministry of Economic Affairs hosting the first ever consultation on the National Trade Policy of The Bahamas and several stakeholders met virtually to discuss the way forward.

Trade is recognized as an essential component of the country’s economic health, according to Economic Affairs Minister Michael Halkitis, who says before the pandemic trade made up a significant percentage of GDP.

International Trade Consultant Dr. Derk Bienen providing details on the draft of the National Trade Policy, saying there are some challenges to be addressed.

Now, after national consultation, the draft policy will be submitted to Cabinet for consideration. The trade policy is expected to become the formal policy document to be implemented in September.

The 53-page draft is available for public viewing on the Ministry of Economic Affairs website.
