PAHO: Measles Cases Rise In The Americas In 2025
THE AMERICAS – The Pan American Health Organization says measles cases in the Americas have skyrocketed to more than 7,100 as of mid-June. That’s a 29-fold jump from this time last year.
THE AMERICAS – The Pan American Health Organization says measles cases in the Americas have skyrocketed to more than 7,100 as of mid-June. That’s a 29-fold jump from this time last year.
Thirteen deaths have been reported, including 3 in the U.S., 9 in Mexico, and one in Canada. Belize has recorded 34 cases and no deaths.
PABO is urging countries to ramp up routine vaccinations, especially in communities with low coverage. Children under 5 and teens are said to be most at risk.
The regional agency is not recommending travel restrictions but is calling for urgent, intensified vaccination campaigns to contain outbreaks.
