UNITED STATES – Nearly two decades after passengers were first told to take off their shoes at airport checkpoints, TSA says it’s phasing out the policy.

A memo sent to TSA officers last week says passengers at many major U.S. airports will now be allowed to keep their shoes on during screening, not just those in pre-check.

The change takes effect Sunday and will expand nationwide soon after.
