Mexico Rules Out Reported Military Plan Against Drug Cartels
MEXICO – Mexico rejects reports of U.S. troops operating on its soil against drug cartels, with President Sheinbaum confirming no military invasion will occur despite a U.S. directive targeting cartels as terrorist groups.
MEXICO – Mexico has firmly rejected reports that President Donald Trump signed a secret directive allowing U.S. troops to operate on Mexican soil against Latin American drug cartels, President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed Friday.
Sheinbaum told reporters that the U.S. military will not enter Mexico and that no invasion is planned. While Washington informed Mexico of an order targeting cartels, she clarified it does not involve military personnel.
The New York Times reported the directive follows Trump’s earlier executive order labeling eight cartels, six of them Mexican, as terrorist organizations. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the move would enable greater use of intelligence agencies and the Defense Department in combating these groups.
