UNITED STATES – The United Nations Security Council has approved a U.S. proposal to more than double an international force fighting gangs in Haiti.

This is as Russia and China continue to criticize Washington.

armed groups control most of Port-au-Prince, forcing over a million people from their homes.

UNICEF says children make up about half of the gang members.

The new force will still rely on voluntary support, with the U.S. and Canada taking a lead role.

Kenya says it’s ready to join, despite earlier struggles.
