Trial Date Set for Man Who Allegedly Ran Over Woman With A Car
A trial date has been set for a court employee who allegedly beat and stabbed a woman as she held their one-year-old daughter outside her Key West Street home.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A trial date has been set for a court employee who allegedly beat and stabbed a woman as she held their one-year-old daughter outside her Key West Street home.
Ray Sands, 33, has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and exposing a child to grievous harm.
Prosecutors allege that onlookers stopped the initial assault by Sands on Petra Curry and took the child inside.
In a now-viral video of the November 15, 2021 incident, Sands sped off in his Nissan Note.
However, he allegedly returned a short time later and ran over a wounded Curry who was still lying in the street.
Sands, who appeared before Senior Justice Bernard Turner by video link from the Bahamas Department of Corrections today, received a back-up trial date of June 26, 2023. If the trial does not proceed on that date, Sands will be tried on August 5, 2024.
Sands, however, is hoping to be released on bail before his trial begins. Justice Turner will hear Sands’ bail application on August 15, 2022.
