Man Accused of 2021 Drive-By Shooting Unanimously Acquitted by Jury

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man accused of a drive-by shooting at a party that left one man dead and four injured has been unanimously acquitted by a nine-member jury.

Prosecutors alleged that 26-year-old Zevargo Gaitor killed Elvardo Deveaux and attempted to murder Kevin Solomon, Jameson Jacob, Glen White and Justton Campbell at Milton Street on June 4, 2021.

Prosecutors allege that Gaitor leaned out of a white van and fired more than 20 shots on the attendees at the party.

The prosecution’s case centred on the testimony of Gaitor’s former friend, who’s now behind bars awaiting trial for murder.

The witness alleged that he saw Gaitor leave Balls Alley in a white van while armed with a Draco pistol.

He alleged that Gaitor bragged about shooting up Milton Street when he returned to the area.

Meanwhile, Jacob, who was shot in the leg during the incident, insisted that police had charged the wrong man.

Jacob is also behind bars awaiting trial for murder.

Gaitor denied involvement in the shooting when he took the witness stand at his trial before Justice Renae McKay.
