Politicians and Partners Mark Opening of Parliament With Red Carpet Fashion

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The fashion parade associated with Wednesday Opening of Parliament was an exhibition of local talent, as numerous home-grown designers clothed members of Parliament, senators, and their spouses for the event.

Wife of Freetown Member of Parliament, Lincoln Deal, Beth Deal discussed with our Denielle Miller her outfit selection for the official Opening of Parliament on Wednesday at the Atlantis resort.

Following the results and formalities of the general election, Parliamentarians and senators have dedicated several days to planning their attire for this ceremonial event.

The occasion is not only celebrated as the beginning of sessions for both the upper and lower houses, but also as a time for dandyism.

For the Opening of Parliament, diplomats and special guests filled the imperial ballroom of the Atlantis Resort, dressed as members of high society, to observe the members of the House of Assembly with their spouses as they walked the red carpet in their finest morning attire.

It was not just a display of fashion, but a national runway showcasing the work of local designers.

Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage, Leslia Miller-Brice was seen in an onyx black Oscar de la Renta fabric with organza micro pleating by Apryl Jasmin.

“As much as possible, I try to engage our local fashion designers, who are apart of the orange economy as much as I can. It’s a joy for me to celebrate Ms. Apryl Jasmin today who has been designing for me for many years.”

Minister of Labour, Public Service and National Insurance, Pia Glover-Rolle wore a navy blue Lamoure dress , with 3D workings and a beaded lace by designer Di’jon la Clear.

Then, the wife of the prime minister, Ann Marie Davis was dressed for another year by David Rolle.

Davis wore a 2 piece ivory bridal satin skirt set, with hand beaded chan tilly lace with vintage pearl buttons by the late Harl Taylor.

“He said you know, first lady a lot of people would go colorful, so you should go plain color, and light. So I said ok, and this is what he had in mind, and it came out beautifully.”
