NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Match day one of the 2026 Samuel P. Haven Jr. National Soccer Championships got underway on Thursday with the opening round of the New Providence Group Playoffs.

Highlighting Thursday’s action, it was a defensive struggle, but the defending champion Lyford Cay Dragons Senior Boys broke through in the second half to take down the GHS Magic 1-0.

It was tied 1-1 early, but the Anatol Rodgers Timberwolves broke away late to defeat Saint Augustine College 3-1.

Windsor School dominated the Doris Johnson Mystic Marlins 6-1, and then, in the lone girls match, the Lyford Cay Dragons defeated C.I. Gibson 6-0.

Match day two is underway on Friday night with more New Providence Group Playoff action.

However, action shifts to the Grand Bahama Group Playoff on Saturday.

Jones, Liberty Upset at Home

The New York Liberty had a week long layoff but returned to the floor last night at home.

Jonquel Jones continued to lead the way for the New York Liberty despite their 87-70 loss to the Golden State Valkyries at Barclays Center.

Jones finished with 16 points and 8 rebounds, and provided a strong presence on both ends of the floor as the Liberty suffered their second setback of the young WNBA season.

Mingoes Softball to Host Tryouts in Grand Bahama

The University of The Bahamas Mingoes Women’s Softball Team will continue its recruiting push this weekend with a high school tour and open tryouts in Grand Bahama.

Tryouts are set for 8 AM on Saturday at the Grand Bahama Sports Complex as Head Coach Yvana McDonald looks to evaluate talent from graduating seniors, gap-year students, UB North students, and high school players.
