ABACO, BAHAMAS – Situated on the beachfront of Treasure Cay, Abaco, the Bahama Beach Club Resort is known for its luxurious family accommodations.

The powder pink condominiums attract tourists from around the globe, with a significant portion of their clientele coming from the United States.

This includes academy award-nominated actor Andy Garcia, who hosts his family reunions at the property.

However, Assistant Manager, Serenity Forbes, tells us that following the passage of Hurricane Dorian in 2019, the resort was left ravaged.

“They had to put in new roofs, some walls, but they were fully gutted and repaired.”

She says rebuilding began in 2021, and was finalized by the end of that same year.

Then shortly after, they were able to re-open their doors and resume normal operations.

Here is what vice president, Natalie Curry has to say.

“Our marketing team got right on the ball…targeting different visitors such as destination weddings persons from Europe…[to] targeting our repeat guests.”

The women shares with us that since resuming operations, guests’ main grievance has revolved around the aviation industry.

Following the shutdown of Silver Airways in 2025, direct flights from the United States to the island have become a challenge, and coupled with the increasing cost of airline tickets, asserting that it is impacting expenses for visitors.

Additionally, there still remains the state of the Treasure Cay Airport.

“I would also like to add that Marsh Harbour is the only airport that’s open now on the island of Abaco. Prior to Hurricane Dorian, Treasure Cay Airport was open with commercial flights landing directly in Treasure Cay, which is only 15 minutes away from us Green Turtle Cay Ferry dock.”

In 2021, during the Minnis administration, then director of aviation, Algernon Cargill, announced that the airport would undergo reconstruction within a year through a $2 million public-private partnership.

Since that time, under the Davis administration, the facility has been incorporated into the Family Islands Airports Renaissance Project.

We reached out to the Minister of Works and Family Island Affairs, Clay Sweeting, for an update, but I did not receive any response up to news time.
