Hurdlers, Jumpers Set the Tone on Night One

NASSAU , BAHAMAS – It was a busy Day One, with a stacked field in the sprint hurdles, the 100 meters, and some big-time performances in the field events. Let’s get to it.

Day One of the BAAA Junior and Senior National Championships saw standout performances and set the tone for the weekend.

In the open women’s 100-meter hurdles, Denisha Cartwright stormed to victory, winning her first national title in 12.97 seconds.

On the men’s side, Louisiana Tech’s Oscar Smith captured the 110-meter hurdles title in 13.47, holding off a stacked collegiate field.

In the junior ranks, Jachario Wilson took the Under-18 boys’ 110-meter hurdles in 13.13, while Jasmine Thompson won the Under-18 girls’ 100-meter hurdles in 15.23.

In the field, veteran jumper Donald Thomas reminded everyone of his class, clearing 2.20 meters to win the open high jump.

Antone Smith, fresh off his Second Team All-American performance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, claimed the triple jump title with a best of 15.84 meters.

Andre Rodgers National Championships

Thirty-three teams, 12 leagues, and seven divisions are all chasing a national title on the diamond this weekend.

The usual favorites are once again playing their way to the top of the standings in several divisions at the 2026 Andre Rodgers National Championships.

Freedom Farm is setting the standard across multiple divisions and remains unbeaten through the opening stages in several age groups, highlighted by a T-Ball squad that has posted the highest run differential in the tournament.

That same level of dominance has carried through the Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, and Under-14 divisions, featuring many of the players who recently earned a silver-medal finish at the PONY Baseball Zone Championships.

The Junior Baseball League of Nassau has been just as dominant in the Under-16 division, remaining undefeated and emerging as a gold-medal favorite.

Now it all comes down to one final day, with bronze-medal games and championship matchups set to decide national titles across every division tomorrow at Andre Rodgers Stadium and the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.
