ANDROS, BAHAMAS – It was not the independence Day the country was looking forward to. Shortly after 2 pm on this July 10th independence day holiday news of the tragedy began to surface.

Images coming to Our News showed the remains of a plane from Andros, and its charred debris still smoking.

Police soon confirmed the tragic news after a call to their control room alerted them of a plane crash in the Pine Yard area, near the San Andros Airport.

The aircraft – Cessna 402C, registration number C6-FLX is reportedly owned by Flamingo Air.

The number of passengers first reported at 7, however there are conflicting reports that there may be more.

A video now widely circulated on social media shows the aircraft engulfed in flames, dashing any hopes of survivors.

A statement from the prime minister soon followed, saying authorities were still trying to establish what happened, but confirmed the worst – multiple casualties, and at that point one survivor, describing it as “unbearable grief.”

Then, there was a video showing Androsians placing what appears to a body in an ambulance at the Andros airport.

While the authorities began piecing the initial details together, we learned the lone survivor passed away.

The last major aviation disaster close to this happened on October 5th back in 2010, when a twin-engine Cessna crashed into lake Killarney shortly after take-off for LPIA, headed to Cockburn Town, San Salvador.

2 crew and 7 passengers were killed.
