Pastor Honors Dahphaney Maxine After Tragic Loss

NASSAU , BAHAMAS – Pastor Carmen Cornish of Change Ministries recalled the recent heartbreaking loss of former University of The Bahamas student and member of Change Ministries, Daphaney Maxine.

Maxine was found unresponsive in her dorm room at the University of The Bahamas last week.

Pastor Cornish says the last time she saw and spoke with Maxine was in church the Sunday before the tragedy.

And as UB students mourn, Cornish believes Maxine’s legacy of leadership and kindness is what will guide them forward.

“Daphne was to church Sunday morning. When I walked in the door, the afternoon would have been one of the first persons that I saw. And I said, ‘Hi, I’m glad to have you back. I miss you all for summer.’ I’m preaching during that last Sunday. Preaching, I called Daphne’s name. I said, ‘I want y’all, you guys, to know, I miss you. You guys are an important part of the ministry.’ And so we exchanged words, we talked, and we left service, of course, not knowing that hours later, Daphne would transition. And so it is a major loss. You can’t put into words.”

And Pastor Cornish says Daphaney wasn’t just known for her smile in church. She was a standout student-athlete at the University of The Bahamas, balancing her role on the volleyball team with her studies in education.

“The Monday night we went to UB, they had a small devotion and then encouragement. They brought in professional persons who were encouraging the students, so I know that, in due time, the Lord will heal and they will get through this.”

“And so as it relates to the UB mom, and Daphne’s biological mother, Crystal, I want to encourage you to pray for Crystal, because Daphne is her oldest child.”
