Ovadose Discusses Historic Nomination as 1st Bahamian Nominated for Male International DJ

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO – In addition to the Caribbean Music Awards set to take place in Trinidad & Tabago for the first time in its four-year history, a Bahamian is also nominated for an award for the first time ever.

Performers including Vybz Kartel, Nicki Minaj, Machel Montano, and other notable artists, have snagged nominations within their designated categories.

One of them is His Excellency Jasper Thomas, known professionally as Ovadose.

“:When I got the news I was still quite shocked, you know what I mean, but I was still trying to downplay it a little bit. So I’d be like it is what it is you know.”

After getting over the initial astonishment, Dose described it as a full circle moment. Emphasizing that the fellow DJ’s nominated within his category are people who significantly influence and motivate him.

“Guys like Private Ryan, a guy like TravisWworld who is a big producer. A guy like Ricky Platinum who’s traveling with Vybz Kartel now on his tour. Puffy doing his own thing, DJ Puffy from Barbados and him being someone I always of course definitely inspired to be like.”

Dose stated it’s also a blessing, but being recognized the CMA nomination was not by chance.

He also re-called his entry into the industry as a journey of sacrifice and investment.

“Getting on the touring scene, the international scene, I took a year of traveling, paying for hotel and airfare to be on shows,” Ovadose said.

He states that regardless of the result at the awards ceremony scheduled for September 19, the nomination serves as a personal testimony

“It’s a proud moment for us as a country, for myself, for my demographic and just being able to prove to everybody like look anything is possible.”
