NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A Grand Bahama man who raped his girlfriend’s 12-year-old daughter has been given a reduced sentence on appeal.

The man, identified only as CM, will now serve 13 years in prison instead of the 15 years imposed by the trial judge.

CM allegedly committed the crime on June 25, 2021, after the girl’s primary school graduation.

To celebrate the milestone, CM – who is a father of ten, took the child and her siblings to a playroom in the Port Lucaya Marketplace.

CM left the other children in the game room and drove the girl to a bushy area, where the crime occurred.

In passing sentence, Justice Petra Hanna-Adderley said CM breached his position of trust and robbed his victim of her childhood.

The court of appeal will give reasons for reducing the sentence at a later date.
