Jones, Liberty Look to Build Momentum for Playoffs

UNITED STATES – Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty are set to return to WNBA action, with a matchup against the league-leading Minnesota Lynx kicking off the final stretch of the regular season.

Jones enters the post-break run after earning All-Star Game MVP honors this summer.

Before the FIBA Women’s World Cup break, Jones was a key contributor for New York, averaging 14.8 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

The Liberty entered the break with a 24–16 record, sitting tied for sixth in the standings, with four regular-season games remaining.

The challenge awaits against Minnesota, which leads the league with a 31–9 record.

With the playoffs approaching, New York will look to use its final games to build momentum and improve its position, while Jones looks to carry her all-star form into the stretch run.

Demeritte Returns to Bosnian Club

Valicia Demeritte is re-signed with with ŽKK Tuzla for her second pro season after putting up 16.3 points, seven rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game in her first go-round.

She also just came off another summer with Team Bahamas, playing at the AmeriCup 2027 Centrobasket Qualifiers.

Her best game came against Guyana, when she dropped six points, eight rebounds, an assist, and three blocks.

Clarke Heads to China With Ranking Points in Sight

Bahamian professional tennis player Sydney Clarke is heading to China, looking to build on her recent progress and pick up valuable ranking points.

Clarke is set to compete at the ITF W15 Maanshan Open, scheduled for September 21st through the 27th in Maanshan.

The 24-year-old says her singles goal is to qualify for the main draw and win her opening match, with a target of earning at least three singles ranking points.

In doubles, she hopes to find a partner and reach the quarterfinals.

Clarke is coming off a strong doubles performance at an ITF W15 event in Huamantla, Mexico, in August.

Partnering with India’s Saumrita Verma, the pair won two matches, including a round-of-16 victory over American Jayna Clemens and Alicja Formella, before falling one round short of the semifinals.

That run left Clarke just one point shy of earning a WTA Doubles ranking.
