NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The death of a 7-year-old yesterday on a local park, prompting the Beaches and Parks Authority to speak out. Tonight, the chairman is emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing clean and safe environments for the nation’s darlings.

Chairman of the Beaches and Parks Authority, McKell Bonaby, expressing condolences to the family of Davanya Butler, the 7-year-old that died after a swing set collapse.

While noting the incident took place on private property, he says the death of a child is still very sensitive and unfortunate. Bonaby says he visited the site of the incident and spoke to administrator’s of the property.

The chairman adding that the authority is engaged in an ongoing revitalization exercise that is expected to upgrade and beautify hundreds of parks.

To this end, he says the Authority wants more open dialogue with members of the public.

He says there are some 200 parks on New Providence alone and that revitalization effort will have a price tag in the millions.
