NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Training for the first cohort of The National Youth Guard begins in January and you could be part of their ranks.

The new program hopes to engage Bahamians between the ages of 18-25 from across the country and train them to be some of their community’s emergency responders when disaster strikes.

While the original deadline has passed, Head of The Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture’s Division of Youth, Sandena Neely says they’re willing to offer a little extra time.

One hundred individuals will be selected and trained to assist with disaster preparedness, active emergencies, and recovery efforts.

Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture Youth Officer and Designer of the new National Youth Guard Program, Kenneth Frazier, tells us what inspired the new initiative.

If you’re interested in being part of the National Youth Guard, you can go to Nyg.Bahamas.gov.bs.

All you’ll need is your nib card, your police certificate, and a government issued id.
