NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The recent deaths of two infants sending shockwaves throughout the country and is prompting one civic organization to call for harsher penalties for persons convicted.

Members of Rise Bahamas say stiffer penalties are needed for people convicted of crimes against children.

President Terneille Burrows is calling for restorative justice to ensure rigorous rehabilitation, to prevent repeat offending.

The clarion call comes after the death of two three-month-old babies this month. Criminal charges have only been filed in one of those cases.

If you know of a child in an abusive situation, Rise Bahamas is urging you to call the 24-hour hotline at 242-422-2763.
