NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Twenty homes were destroyed in a shantytown fire in southern New Providence leaving behind many residents without homes and personal effects.

Residents were on the ground, Monday morning, sifting through rubble while avoiding small pockets of fire still burning as they tried to gather what was left of their homes that once stood. Fire officers were also seen continuing to assess the scene and take photographs.

Drone footage showing debris and ash covering an area about the size of a city block. We spoke with a son and his mother who lost everything.

For one father and husband, a pile of burnt clothes is all that’s left of his home. Rosny Fertil was at work at the time the blaze started. He says now his number one concern is the welfare of his children.
