NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It’s considered one of the largest challenges of our lifetime – climate change, and how it impacts our current and future way of life.

United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry explains what the U.S. is doing to reduce emissions and help prevent the earth’s temperature from rising 1.5 degrees.

Why is that important?

To put it plainly, climate change and global warming are impacting not only the world around us, but also our health.

One of the major contributors to global warming is the use and reliance on fossil fuels.

Earlier this week, European union lawmakers approved a ban on new fossil fuel ban, which comes into effect in 2035 – making it impossible to sell new fossil fuel cars in that 27-country region in about ten years.

Can you imagine the impact?

Secretary Kerry says the U.S. is also doing its part.

Some major banks are putting their money where their mouth is, including HSBC, Europe’s biggest bank, which announced in 2022 that it would no longer fund new oil and gas projects. It will however still finance existing fossil fuel projects.

Are these initiatives enough to help the world reach the goal of cutting emissions by 45 percent by 2030?
