Govt. And Port Authority Should Work Together

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – This august will mark 68 years since the signing of the hawksbill creek agreement, the document that gave the Grand Bahama Port Authority responsibility for the development, administration and management of the City of Freeport.

President of the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce, James Carey weighs in on the relevancy and viability of the port today.

Carey also says there seems to be public perception that the two families are not working in unison as their father and grandfather once did.

He also points out that for years, the port authority has been operating without a chairman.

And as it stands, the port authority has management over the City of Freeport, while the government has reign over all other areas outside of Freeport.

The GB chamber chief says it is time for all parties to come together to clearly define roles.

Carey says while past generations were more inclined to wait and see, this generation demands more.

He is calling for transparency from the port authority.
