CJ: Digital Recording System To Enhance Courts

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – In just over a week the judiciary will re-launch the digital court recording system, which officials say will not only modernize the courts but also make it more efficient.

The digital recording system was first installed in the courts five years ago thanks to assistance from the United States Embassy in Nassau but the process began back in 2015.

Today, more than 30 magistrates and Supreme Courts in New Providence, Grand Bahama and Abaco are outfitted with the system.

Chief Justice Sir Ian Winder says this latest version of the system will include the speech to text feature.

The chief justice adds the system will allow the judiciary to share information more efficiently so matters can not only move through the justice system and be heard efficiently but also have those matters resolved in a timelier fashion.

And, if you’re wondering how court stenographers will be impacted? Sir Ian says they will still have a role to play.

The official launch event is slated for April 21st.
